My 5 Yr Old Yorkie Not Accepting Our New Puppy
Very sadly we lost both of our Yorkies last month (they were 14 and 13 years old)We just got a new male yorkie puppy of 10 weeks old with a huge attitude. The German Shepard (female) are very good with him and very patient but the Buvier (male) does not want anything to do with the puppy, he is also distancing himself from the family.
My 5 yr old yorkie not accepting our new puppy. Once they’ve met off home territory, repeat the introduction in your yard—off-leash if it’s fenced. Call the dog and puppy apart every few minutes to ensure they don’t become too excited. Remember, the new pup should only meet one resident dog at a time, not the whole gang at once. I’ve recently added a 12 week old stray To my family. She’s been with us for 4 or 5 weeks. My boyfriend has a 2 yr old cat in the home as well. I have an 6 yr old 85 pound dog and we’ve been together since he was 6 weeks old. Usually he LOVES cats. Hes cuddly and play sooo carefully with every other cat he’s ever met. An older resident dog will be less threatened by a puppy, than it will by another adult dog. A pup or adolescent will most likely accept either. Give a thought to size and breed characteristics. If your current dog is from a breed with a strong prey-drive, introducing a new puppy who is a small, fast-moving breed is probably not the best idea. Here are some of the issues you'll face when introducing a new puppy, and tips on how you can smooth the process of acclimation when bringing a new dog into your household. Approximately one week before bringing the new puppy home, arrange for the older dog to meet the puppy at a park or anywhere that is not his home territory. Lavish the older dog with affection and assurance as he sniffs and greets the new dog. Take them on a walk together if the puppy is old enough to be led on a leash. We have an alpha female, 2 year old lab and want to introduce her to a new female puppy, 6 month old shepherd. Like all animals, as dogs age they tend to develop health problems unique to senior yorkies. Many dog owners have a difficult time accepting this fact and think that their lively pooch is not an older dog and will not have health problems. DO NOT SCOLD your adult for this; this is a normal and needed exchange. Some dogs may leap up and go a step or two toward the puppy (especially toy breeds with larger-breed pups). This may cause the puppy to squeal, run away, cower, grovel back up to the adult or stay well clear. All are normal. The rare older dog allows the puppy to take the toy.
At nearly 12 years of age, her owners had adopted a puppy to help keep her young. Unfortunately, Susie was not very appreciative of this little gift. Tito is a deliciously cute, rambunctious, obnoxious, annoying, hyperactive, 12-week-old Border Collie. From the very beginning, he was all over Susie. Do not keep handing the new puppy off to people. It’s hard to resist the urge to pick up and hug a new puppy. But, right now, the goal is an introduction to the home and too much handling can be stressful. Each person should knee/bend to great the puppy and say hello. Long snuggles can come later. We have a 5 yr.old. she is our Baby. We really want another but I prefer females. Baby was very jealous of the last new puppy we got but it was a male. We finally had to find him another home. She is not a social girl. Which is mostly our fault. She is very tiny, 3.2 lbs. We were always worried she could get hurt. My boyfriend and I just rescued an 8 month old hound mix and my dog who is 5 years old will not accept him. My dog is very possessive of me and will grow at the new puppy when he goes anywhere near him. He has snapped on him when he went over to get closer to him on the couch but no one was bit.
