Oily Hair On My Yorkie.. (TOTW) but mostly he is interested in eating the puppy's purina puppy Chow - which is horrible for his allergies. Anyway, my vet says that skin allergies will cause that 'greasy' feeling. 11-29-2009, 02:54 PM #14: tortoisekeeper. Donating YT 500 Club Member.
My yorkie has puppy hair. If your Yorkie has dry or irritated skin, opt for towel and air drying. 3. Improper brushing. Regular brushing is necessary for a healthy Yorkie skin and coat. Leaving a Yorkie’s hair ungroomed or using the wrong tools can lead to a matted mess and irritated skin. Matting and lack of airflow to the skin The wavy coat is considered the puppy cut for a Yorkshire terrier. It is a short-coat style that many people have on their Yorkie because it is easy and convenient. When hair is shorter it waves up. If you leave your Yorkie's hair free-flowing it might develop very wavy hair. My Yorkie is losing hair - what can I do? I can't figure out why he is losing hair. + 12. vote up. One of the most common causes of hair loss in dogs has to do with a problem with the thyroid which is easily solved with an inexpensive daily medication. As a first step I would bring him to a vet and have a full blood workup done. Comb your Yorkie’s hair every day using detangling spray and a pin brush. Spray his coat with an equal mixture of water and dog conditioner. Lift his hair with your fingers and continue spraying until his entire coat feels slightly damp. Provided he has no major mats or snarls, use scissors and a broad-toothed comb to trim his hair.
It is hard to say for sure if this is normal without being able to see and examine your puppy, but at this age, the adult coat would be starting to come in, replacing the puppy coat, and this change often begins at the top of the head. It did with my puppy (not a Yorkie). My pup (with his thin puppy hair) is several months older now and has beautiful, much thicker hair. The hair on his head is a beautiful, thick, golden tan. -----I copied this for you from the article about Yorkies' hair ---- it has made a lot of people feel better about their puppy's thin hair..... Each Yorkie will react differently to each shampoo. And each Yorkie has its own routines and daily activities. That makes it very difficult to give a concrete answer to that question. my wife just brought a yorkie and it's is adorable, but it has real thin blue, blk and brown hair. her brothers has thick brown full hair. the people who we brought her from said that yorkie females don't have as much as the male do when they are puppies. i mean i'm not going to take her back because my kids love her but i do want to know how she will turn out. Perhaps the Yorkie even had some pretty severely matted hair that needed to be worked out, or maybe there was a new task performed that has not been done before. Even if the groomer is great, highly competent, trusted, and professional, it’s no guarantee your Yorkie will get along with him or her and he may still come home frightened. Ok, but what does all of these has to do with the Yorkie’s eyes? Well, this dog breed shows similar connection, because when the puppy has beautiful green or blue eyes, it means its tapetum is colored. On the contrary: when the Yorkshire Terrier has red vessels on the whites of its eyes, the tapetum is non-colored. Yorkie coats are unique both in the way they resemble human hair rather than dog fur, and because they change colors as the dog and its hair grows. Although the American Kennel Club imposes strict rules on the official colors of the Yorkshire Terrier, Yorkies can come in a variety of color combinations, and every Yorkie looks a little bit.
A Yorkie with a silk coat has fine, humanlike hair that grows in a single layer with no undercoat. When properly groomed, your silk-coat Yorkie's fur will hang perfectly straight off the body. It will not be wavy and will be very shiny because of the translucent nature of the show-quality Yorkie's colors. I recommend washing the dog, or taking the dog to the groomer. There are special brushes for detangling matted hair that you can find in most pet stores. If the yorkie is a long haired dog, make sure you brush him/her a few times a week with a regular dog brush suited for his/her hair length to reduce the matted up fur. The Yorkie puppy coat is significantly different in color and thickness to their adult coat. The first thing you'll notice is darker features, with prominent black markings and tan highlights..
